Born and raised in South Africa - he hails from a family line addled with mediums, dreamers and madmen. Balthazar is a Lucky Mojo certified practitioner and a member of AIRR: the Association of Independent Reader and Rootworkers. In addition to working as a professional folk-magician he serves his local community regularly as a medium at spiritualist services. As a santeria initiate and practitioner of espiritismo cruzado - he is especially interested in the important role that the Creole traditions are playing in an emerging new synthesis of western spirituality and magic. An avid blogger and writer he has contributed to At the Crossroads published by Scarlet Imprint, as well as the Conjure Codex published by Hadean Press. He currently lives in Amsterdam, Netherlands with his husband where he reads cards, writes and conjures irrepressibly. Hoodoo and conjure, sometimes also referred to as rootwork, is the living tradition of African American folk-magic. We make use of the spiritual powers contained in herbs, minerals - and of course roots. By combining the natural forces found in these botanicals with prayer, scripture, candles, oils and washes - and aided the spirits of the dead, the saints and God - a gifted worker can create positive changes in your life and remove bad luck, obstacles and other troublesome conditions. |
